December Senior of the Month

December Senior Student of the Month

Sayan Trotman has been chosen as Fabius-Pompey’s Senior Student of the Month for the month of December. Sayan is a wonderful student and an active member of the school community. Sayan is a member of the Varsity Soccer and Track & Field teams, Mock Trial, Teen Institute, National Honor Society, and has earned leadership roles in Student Council and Yearbook.

What has been your favorite extracurricular activity in high school?
My favorite club has definitely been Mock Trial, because it so closely resembles what I want to do in the future. I like having the experience of having to prove my side – and I also like arguing.
What has been your favorite subject or course in high school?
My favorite class has always been English. It has always been what I am best at, but it is also fun for me, because I already enjoy reading and writing in my free time.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Definitely getting into National Honor Society. I missed membership by a tiny fraction of a point in the first round and earning that spot was really important to me. I appreciated that Mr. Cavo gave me the chance to work hard and prove myself this year.
What are your plans for next year and beyond?
Next year, I will be attending Utica College and plan to double major in Sociology and Anthropology. Long term, I hope to go to law school and become a criminal, immigration, and/or civil rights defense attorney. Having experienced issues in these areas, I want to use my skills to help people avoid some of the hardships I’ve experienced.
Who inspires you?
Thurgood Marshall! He worked his way up through the justice system and made a name for himself at a time when it was especially difficult, and largely not acceptable, for an African American to have such an important role in society.
What advice do you have for underclassmen?
Take the classes that let you explore new content and go outside of your comfort zone, not just the courses required for graduation. For me, this was Psychology and Abnormal Psychology, but you never know what courses you might end up loving or being able to use in the future.
