Suggestions for practicing skills at home...

- Access this reading level correlation chart to help identify your child's reading level. It shows reading levels by grade range, Guided Reading levels, and Lexile levels

- Check out the site readkiddoread.com for booklists and suggestions to encourage reading at home.
- Read to your child and have them read to you.
- Have your child practice reading familiar text in front of a mirror. Repeated readings help students improve fluency.
- Ask your child questions about what they are reading. Questions like, "What has happened so far, What do you think will happen next, Who are the characters, Do you like the story, What does this story make you think of?"
- Play word card Memory. Create 2 sets of word cards with your child and place face down in even rows and columns. Have your child read each card as they are flipped over. Try to match the set. These can be rhyming words, words that focus on a specific spelling pattern, or content vocabulary words.
