Chess Club Returns
Chess Returns to Fabius-Pompey
Chess has been exploding in the Middle School-High School Library and we have chess games going on nearly every period of the school day! Fabius-Pompey is well known for excellent players and in the past they have earned trophies at the national level! Fabius Pompey has a long tradition of chess and we are excited to inspire a new generation of chess players.
Chess teaches “systems thinking”. Systems thinking is simply the art of seeing "the big picture.” It's a problem-solving approach that views the pieces as being connected to a greater whole. Chess encourages focus learning and playing chess teaches children the benefits of careful observation and concentration.
Miss Turner, MS-HS Librarian and Coach May have collaborated to start a Chess Club due to all the interest from students. We have beginners to advanced players - all are welcome to play from 6th grade to 12th grade and beyond. Nearly twenty students are taking part on Wednesdays after-school to learn about chess and become better players! Bob Nasiff, from Syracuse Chess, a grand-master has joined us as a coach to improve the player's skills. We hope to begin attending competitions very soon.
